Are You Thinking of Quitting Your Job, In the Pandemic-Fueled "Great Resignation"?

Thinking of quitting your job?

If so, you’re in good company.

The U.S. Labor Department reported that 4 million people quit their jobs in April 2021 alone, the highest number since they began recording turnover in 2000.

Hearing this validated a lot of what I've been hearing as a career and life coach in my behind-the-scenes conversations with clients and others.

The pandemic has given people space to reflect on their priorities and direction -- which always sparks change. ✨

Other reasons that I hear a lot:
👉🏽 Burnout and the need to recover
👉🏽 The overall desire for more time and flexibility
👉🏽 Changes in work environments, such as increased health risks and stress (especially hearing this from people in the health and medical industry), more resource constraints, and remote work (some people love it, and some people really miss their office socializing and camaraderie
👉🏽 An increasing awareness, thanks to #metoo and #blacklivesmatter, about who people want to work with and for, and what an inclusive and equitable workplace really needs to look like.

I guess you could say that I'm one of the people behind this "I quit" trend, because everyday I'm working with professionals who are re-thinking their career direction.

I'm supporting them to:

📌 Make a solid plan so they can leave their job to take time off to recover from burnout and make space for a new career phase.

📌 Work with recruiters and prepare for interviews for new positions at more forward-thinking companies.

📌 Start new business on the side, with the goal of quitting their full-time job as soon as it's financially feasible.

I’m encouraged by the news of the “Great Resignation” and intrigued about what it means for the future of work.

If it really is a sign of people reevaluating their priorities and taking action to adjust their lives, and to cede less and demand more of employers -- that’s an incredibly positive thing, and something I’m 100-percent behind.

This is what I want for everyone working out there.

To have a vivid sense of what they want out of life and work, and to take what practical action that’s in their control, to ask for and expect it, and to build it.

And, I know how powerful it is when you can get some structured space and an outside perspective (me!) to help you sort through all your ideas and doubts so you get both clarity and confidence about what the right next steps are for you.

If you’ve been thinking about coaching with me around your next career move, the first step is to get on a quick call with me to see if it’s a good fit.
